JOB DECRIPTION

 

Salary: £13.00 per hour

Annual Leave:  6 weeks out with term time

Hours: This is a permanent position working between 8.30am-3.30pm term time only

 

Red Kite Community Nursery, Doune is a highly regarded nursery working in partnership with Stirling Council. The nursery is open from 9am – 3pm during term time for children aged 2 year 9 months to school age.


Our practitioners are fully qualified and registered with the SSSC, we follow the Curriculum for Excellence and are inspected bi-annually by the Care Commission and regularly by HMIe. Our provision is also monitored annually by Stirling Council. Our aim is to provide the best care for the children, parents and staff.


We are owned and managed by the parents of the children and are a registered Scottish Charity (SC047382) The nursery is a not for profit organisation.


We are now seeking a highly motivated, dedicated and passionate Early Years Professional to lead our nursery. You will be responsible for managing the day to day operation of the nursery, managing the staff team and for ensuring the delivery of the highest quality early learning and childcare.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • You will take full responsibility for the delivery of all services in the setting


  • As the Designated Safeguarding Person and Registered Manager, you will oversee and ensure the implementation of any safeguarding plans for the children in your care. You will lead the staff in their understanding of what safeguarding is and develop their understanding of the complex issues affecting children who are subject to child protection plans


  • You will be responsible for the health and safety of the children and staff in the nursery. You should quickly be able to react to and log any concerns in relation to health and safety and you will work to resolve any issues with colleagues and/or relevant external agencies. You will ensure the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times


  • You will have direct and overall management of the staff ensuring that all policies and procedures are implemented and adhered to. You will sustain a successful team of passionate practitioners dedicated to providing a safe, caring, stimulating environment for all children. You will be responsible for training staff as and when required


  • You will oversee the recording and reporting of planning, observations and progression for all children including the full and thorough assessment of the setting against the Curriculum for Excellence


  • You will ensure complete compliance with all registration and inspection requirements working to deliver a provision that exceeds all expectations by delivering exceptional outcomes


  • You will offer a stimulating environment by keeping occupancy levels high ensuring the children have a positive social experience


  • You should be expected to work alongside the Treasurer and Accountant to manage finance and invoicing systems ensuring that the setting is financially viable


  • You will actively promote and support the protection of children and young people in the workplace, ensuring that all staff and volunteers observe nursery policies and procedures to keep children safe from harm


  • You will develop and maintain good relationships and communications with parents/carers to facilitate day-to-day caring needs, including maintaining up to date personal plans


  • You will lead and evaluate termly staff meetings (these will be paid for and scheduled outside working hours.)


  • You will ideally have an understanding of the voluntary sector and working with a parent committee


  • You will ensure confidentiality of information received

 

Skills Required

  • Management/ Snr Practitioner experience is essential
  • The ability to prioritise the care, learning and development of young children
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to motivate an already established, loyal team and help to manage a high-quality provision. You will be skilled and competent in both childcare delivery and in managing and communicating with all children, families, staff, parent committee and other professional/external agencies as appropriate
  • A sound understanding of the Curriculum for Excellence
  • In depth knowledge of the Health and Social Care Standards, HGIOELC, GIRFEC and Building the Ambition and a proven ability to embed best practice from these documents
  • Knowledge of the National Standard and understanding of the impact/implementation of 1140 hours. Red Kite is currently implementing 1140
  • A positive approach to learning and gaining new skills through teamwork and training opportunities
  • Good Written and verbal skills for report writing, maintaining child records and providing feedback to parents/carers and colleagues
  • Experience in line managing staff, including induction, supervision and appraisals
  • The ability to adhere to deadlines and to confidently, effectively and calmly deal with operational issues
  • Strong numeracy ability and understanding of fee structures/invoicing/statements in an ELC setting
  • A positive approach to inclusive practice with children and colleagues
  • A willingness to be flexible in order to meet the needs of the children and nursery
  • You must be reliable and trustworthy


  • Experience/knowledge of Seemis /NAMS – although training will be given


Qualifications

  • Hold or be working towards a BA, Post Grad or Level 9 SQA qualification in Childhood Practice or other relevant Education award.
  • First Aid certificate (desirable)
  • Food Hygiene Certificate (desirable)
  • SSSC registered
  • Child Protection
